The EXODUS Digital Sky Demonstrator project, jointly developed by the six COOPANS Air Navigation Service Providers, has reached a major milestone with the successful establishment and interconnection of the platform’s core infrastructure at all participating sites. This was celebrated on a joint online call with the six local  EXODUS platform sites on 10th December.

Server clusters across the six locations are now fully interconnected, linked by a cyber-secured Wide Area Network (WAN) — a cornerstone achievement for the project.

This is a landmark step in COOPANS cooperation and reflects 18 months of hard work, dedication, and the shared ambition to deliver state-of-the-art innovation — from design, harmonisation, and specification, through procurement, assembly, and final configuration of the platform.

With the infrastructure now in place, the platform is officially ready to receive the software components that will complete the demonstration phase, scheduled for spring 2026.

COOPANS Programme Management commends all six technical project teams for their commitment and expertise in delivering this critical foundation. Their achievement enables an operational environment where the six COOPANS ANSPs can demonstrate new business continuity concepts by enhancing both technical and operational interoperability — in full alignment with the ATM Master Plan.

Looking ahead, EXODUS will act as a powerful enabler for innovation in cooperation with industrial partners. As a Digital Sky Demonstrator directly connected to the operational environment, it represents Europe’s first multi-state Virtual Centre — and one of the first worldwide.

EXODUS contributes to the SESAR Flagship initiative “Virtualisation and Cybersecure Data-Sharing”, one of the nine flagships in the SESAR Research and Innovation Agenda.

Framework

EXODUS is a Digital Sky Demonstrator. The EXODUS project marks the first step towards a future federated operating model — one that moves beyond today’s geographically based systems towards a service-oriented, location-independent approach. This is achieved by decoupling ATM data services such as flight data, radar, and weather information from the physical location of the air traffic controller.
